"The Land of Many Wonders and Lord Rama's Exile"
Chitrakoot, spread across the borders of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, is where Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent 11 out of their 14 years in exile. It is here that Maharishi Valmiki and Maharishi Atri resided, and the Mandakini River flows with divine grace.
One of the most emotional sites in Chitrakoot is the **Bharat Milap Temple**. This is the exact spot where Bharat met Lord Rama to persuade him to return to Ayodhya. It is said that the meeting was so powerful and emotional that the rocks of the Kamadgiri hill melted, leaving behind impressions of the footprints of Lord Rama and Bharat. A visit here is a meditation on the selfless love between brothers.
A short distance from Ramghat lies **Sphatik Shila**, a massive boulder on the banks of the Mandakini. Ancient legends say that Lord Rama and Sita used to sit on this rock, admiring the lush beauty of the Chitrakoot forests. Look closely at the rock, and you'll find footprints traditionally attributed to the Lord. It is a place of profound peace, ideal for early morning contemplation.
Witness the mesmerizing Deepdaan and Aarti on the banks of Mandakini.
Complete the 5km circular trek around the holy hill that grants wishes.

Secret Caves
Hidden caves where the Godavari river emerges and vanishes. Pilgrims walk through knee-deep water in these divine caverns. It is believed that the Godavari river appeared here secretly to have a darshan of Lord Rama.
Divine Motherhood
Located near the origin of Mandakini River. According to legend, Goddess Anusuya's penance was so powerful that when the Tridevs (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh) came to test her, she turned them into infants and fed them as a mother. This ashram remains a symbol of pure devotion and motherhood.
Hilltop Spring
A natural spring falls directly onto the idol of Lord Hanuman here. Legend says Lord Rama created this spring to cool Hanuman's anger and heat after he returned from burning Lanka. Reachable via a scenic climb of steps or cable car.
**Janaki Kund** is a serene spot on the left bank of the Mandakini river. It is believed that Goddess Sita (Janaki) used to bathe here during the years of exile. The rocks nearby still bear the footprints of the goddess, which are worshipped by thousands of devotees every day. The water here is crystal clear and calm, reflecting the purity of the Ramayana era.
Every evening, as the sun dips below the horizon, **Ramghat** transforms into a theatre of light and sound. The Mandakini Aarti is a rhythmic celebration involving giant brass lamps and synchronized chanting. Sitting on a wooden boat in the middle of the river, watching the reflection of the lamps in the water, is an experience that stays with you forever.
