Pachmarhi Hill Station & Satpura Wildlife Retreat
Discover the 'Queen of Satpura' — Waterfalls, Caves, and Pristine Nature
Pachmarhi — famously known as the 'Satpura ki Rani' (Queen of Satpura) — is Madhya Pradesh's only hill station and one of its most cherished ecological treasures. Sitting at an altitude of 1,100 metres in the heart of the Satpura Biosphere Reserve, Pachmarhi offers a landscape that is dramatically different from the plains of Malwa. Here, deep red sandstone canyons meet lush green forests, sparkling perennial waterfalls cascade into crystal-clear pools, and ancient caves hold secrets of both prehistoric man and legendary heroes. The town's history is as fascinating as its geography. It was 'discovered' for the modern world in 1857 by Captain James Forsyth of the Bengal Lancers, who was so captivated by the plateau's cool climate and natural beauty that he recommended it as a sanatorium for British troops. To this day, Pachmarhi retains a distinct Raj-era charm with its colonial bungalows, wide boulevards, and sprawling gardens. But the spiritual and mythological roots of Pachmarhi go back millennia. The Pandav Caves, a core attraction, are believed to have been carved by the five Pandava brothers during their thirteen-year exile (Vanvas). The Jata Shankar Caves, where the rocks naturally form the shape of Lord Shiva's matted hair (Jata), is where legend says Shiva hid from the demon Bhasmasura. This retreat is designed for those who seek to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the raw, untamed beauty of the Indian wilderness. You will explore the highest point in Madhya Pradesh — Dhoopgarh — to witness a sunset that painters have struggled to capture for centuries. You will trek through dense sal and teak forests to reach waterfalls like Bee Falls and Duchess Falls, and descend into deep gorges like Reechgarh, where bears were once said to roam. Being a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Pachmarhi is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, home to several endemic species of flora and fauna. Our tour provides the perfect balance of adventure, spiritual discovery, and colonial-style relaxation.
